TTDC plans mega summer festival

T.S. Shankar

CHENNAI: Buoyed by the success of Mamallapuram dance festival, Chennai Sangamam and the Pongal fair on Island Grounds, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has planned a mega summer festival.

Giving details of ‘Summer Fest 2008,’ to be organised on Island Grounds after the Pongal fair, TTDC Managing Director M. Rajaram said the 20-day fair would focus on the younger generation, especially students, providing them with infotainment.

“We are drawing up mega plans to ensure that the fair provides a lion’s share of amusement, education and product innovation.

Involvement of school and college students, introduction of culinary tourism in a big way and an exhibition of books will form part of the speciality of the summer fest,” Mr. Rajaram said. An elaborate food court has also been planned.

Mr. Rajaram has appealed to the stakeholders, especially the amusement park industry, to extend wholehearted support to the summer fest.
