Governor releases two publications highlighting its achievements
CHENNAI: Governor Surjit Singh Barnala on Friday inaugurated an exhibition of the capabilities of the Coast Guard and released two publications highlighting its achievements on the occasion of the Coast Guard Day.
With this, the Coast Guard Day celebrations, which began with the Kanyakumari-Kolkata motorcycle expedition on December 11 and included a walkathon, troops get-together, blood donation camp and public awareness camps, concluded.
The Governor released the third edition of ‘Tat Tarangani,’ a Hindi publication of Coast Guard Region (East), in the presence of Inspector-General Rajendra Singh, Commander, Indian Coast Guard Region (East).
As part of the celebrations, all Coast Guard and Naval ships in the harbour were decorated with flags running from the jack staff to the ensign staff.
It was on this day in 1977 that the service was raised, manned by Naval officers on deputation.
The youngest armed force safeguards the maritime interests of the nation that extend to 200 NM from the coastline encompassing about 2.01 million sq km. The Coast Guard coordinates with eight central ministries and with about 30 Central, State and civil departments.
