Kollam: The death of a railway employee found run over by a train at the Railway Junction here on Thursday, the day he was to retire after 31 years of service, has taken a new turn after the Railway Police here registered a case of “unnatural death” under Section 174 CrPC. Railway Police sources told The Hindu on Friday that they would reach a conclusion on the cause of death after further investigation that would involve the questioning of his relatives and friends. N.K. Bhaskaran was a senior electrical technician at the Kollam railway station, and had just three hours left for his shift to end. Just before noon, he was returning after attending to a stationary train. His body, cut in two, was found under the Madurai-Kollam Passenger that was being shunted to the yard in the reverse direction. His colleagues said Bhaskaran was a good worker, known for his punctuality and sincerity. They were in the midst of preparations to give him a send-off. When he failed to turn up, they went searching for him and found the body. Bhaskaran, who hails from Mavelikkara in Alleppey district, leaves behind wife Lakshmikutty and five children. Three of them are unmarried daughters and two are sons. None of them is employed. The family has been living in the railway quarters near the station.
