BANGALORE: It was a day out for hundreds of truckers who usually are be behind the wheels for days together. At the Truckers’ Utsav here on Friday, these drivers not only got tips towards leading a healthy life, but were also treated to several entertainment programmes and games. This unique and daylong infotainment event was organised by Bhoruka Charitable Trust in association with Transport Corporation of India (TCI) Foundation and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., (IOCL) at Madanayakanahalli on National Highway 4 near Nelamangala. It is a part of Project “Kavach,” a national health programme run by TCI Foundation for long-distance truckers. This project provides comprehensive health services at Khushi clinics and Behaviour Change Communication for truckers at 17 major locations across nine States. Friday’s Utsav began with a health camp, attended by more than one hundred drivers. Several specialists in general health and sexually transmitted diseases examined the drivers and counselled them. The health camp was followed by mind-relaxing games and singing competitions. Three drivers got an opportunity to sing along with the orchestra troupe that rendered numbers from different languages in the evening. Senior officials of IOCL, representatives from truckers’ associations and others were present on the occasion. Mitali Das of TCI Foundation said the organisers conducted four such programmes annually, and the next event would be on May 1. The infotainment programmes had been getting good response from drivers whose numbers had been increasing for every successive programme, she added.
