29.4-lakh birds culled so far

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Saturday said the State governments of Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa had been advised to cull poultry birds up to five km. from their border with West Bengal to prevent an outbreak of avian influenza.
So far 29.43 lakh poultry have been culled in the 13 districts in West Bengal.
The samples collected from Canning 2 block of South 24 Parganas district have tested positive for bird flu on the basis of rapid tests conducted at the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory, Bhopal.
Mortality of birds
The mortality of birds till Friday was 1,32,625 as reported from the affected districts of Birbhum, Dakshin Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Nadia, South 24 Parganas, Burdwan, Bankura, Hooghly, Malda, Cooch Behar, Purulia, Howrah and North 24 Parganas.
