Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: A three-day event to mark the fourth anniversary of the Universal Temple of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Ashram commenced on a serene note here on Friday.

The first day’s programmes ended with a captivating santoor recital by Shivakumar Sharma.

Special concert

The ashram had organised the special music concert by Pandit Sharma for the second time.

Pandit Sharmna was accompanied by Yogesh Samshi on tabla.

Pandit Sharma started his concert with “alaap”, followed by “jor” and ended with “jhala” in the “Bhoopali” raga.

Later, Pandit Sharma presented two compositions set to “Jhaptaal” and “Ektaal”.

Convention

Earlier, the ashram organised a convention for schoolchildren on personality development and character building on the basis of the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.

The sessions had lectures by experts in English and Kannada.

Develop personality

Swami Sukhatmanandaji Maharaj, president of Ramakrishna Math in Ooty, who addressed the students, said that it was necessary to develop the personality of the youth so that they lived in a proper way.

The four pillars to success in an individual’s life were will-power, thinking, working, and feeling, he said.

“The youth should have a desire to do things that are said to be impossible. One should develop good habits as they play a prominent role in character building,” he said.

Swami Satyarupanandaji Maharaj, secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Ashram, Raipur; Gurumurthy, director of the Belgaum Institute of Medical Sciences; Chandrakant Kokate, Vice-Chancellor of the KLE University; Basawaraj Jajgampi, principal of the Lingaraj College; and Suresh Kulkarni, editor of Vijnana Sarathi, Dharwad, spoke on the occasion.
