BHUBANESWAR: Governor M.C. Bhandare has urged upon the government to promote Orissa’s tribal art at the national-level by painting walls at public places in major metros with tribal art. He has also expressed his keen interest in initiating the project in his home-city Mumbai and in the national capital with personal efforts. Addressing the valedictory ceremony of the week-long State-level tribal fair here on Friday night, Mr.Bhandare appreciated the effort of the Bhubaneswar Muncipal Corporation’s recent efforts to paint walls at public places with Orissa’s traditional art as part of its city beautification drive. “It educates people about their own culture and tradition and helps outsiders appreciate it as well,” he observed and added that the such initiatives also provide the much needed patronage to the marginalised folk and tribal artists. The ethnic culture is at peril everywhere in the world as the communities are getting unduly influenced by the so-called modern life-style, Mr.Bhadare observed. Hence it is quite relevant to instil a sense of self esteem and pride for one’s cultural practices in the tribal communities, he pointed out. The Governor further stated that two tribal dance troupe of the State are scheduled to perform in the capital cities of Italy and France soon.
