Aiding students access data on U.K. education

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: British Council is actively helping students get authentic information on education in the United Kingdom (U.K.).

As part of its efforts to ensure quality of information given to the students, the Council in association with the British Deputy High Commission in Chennai have developed a certificated training programme for agents promoting British education in India.

This programme provides agents with a broad knowledge of the U.K. education system and studying / living in the U.K.

The aim of the training programme was to develop knowledge of the U.K. education and training system; courses and qualifications at each level and quality assurance mechanisms and how they operate.

Training was also given on student lifestyle issues – living costs, travel and accommodation; course fees and scholarships; welfare and support provided for international students in the UK; UK application procedures and standard entry requirements; and visa and immigration regulations.

British Council officials said that the three month-long online programme offered will help agents effectively provide high-quality authentic information, resources and services to potential students considering education in the U.K.

The course was split into two units to enable the candidates (agents and/or their employees) to study in ‘bite-size’ pieces. Candidates spent approximately three hours a week over an eight-week period to complete this programme.

At the end of the study period, the candidates wrote the final assessment – a written paper administered under examination conditions.

Out of 20 candidates who had registered for the course and took the final assessment, six achieved distinction (75 per cent and above) and 13 candidates successfully achieved a pass (50 per cent and above).

The certificate is recognised by institutions in the U.K..
