Bhopal: With an aim to provide housing to people living below poverty line in rural areas of Madhya Pradesh, the State rural development department has constructed over 31,000 houses this year. Under the Indira Awas Yojana this year, 31,688 houses have been completed while 19,495 houses are nearing completion. Similarly, construction of 1000 houses under Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana, started this calendar, has also been completed, an official release said on Saturday. Panchayat and Rural development Minister Rustam Singh has said that during the current financial year 53,188 new houses are being constructed while 14,773 houses are being improved. By the month of December, over Rs 76.70 crore has been spent on the construction works which is 95.38 per cent of the allocated funds. Out of these funds over Rs 49.63 crore has been spent on the construction of 20,542 houses for beneficiaries of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Mr. Singh informed that from this year Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana has been started to fulfil the need of more houses. Under Indira Awas Yojana, a beneficiary is provided Rs 25,000 for the construction of a new house and Rs 10,000 for improvement of an existing house. PTI
