TDP ultimatum to Collector, SP

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has warned of waging a legal battle if the district Collector and the Superintendent of Police fail to take action against those who caused postponement of the Veeravaram Water Distributory Committee (WDC) election on Friday by deliberately picking up a clash with TDP workers.

TDP district president Jyotula Nehru told reporters on Saturday that the chairman of the Veeravaram WDC was to be elected by presidents of five Water Users’ Associations (WUA). But the supporters of Veeravaram WUA president T. Gowri had planned well in advance to disturb the process because they knew they had no chance of winning the election as the TDP enjoyed a majority.

Supporters of the Congress also made a false complaint that Gollaprolu WUA president A. Krishna, who is one of the five voters (WUA presidents), was kidnapped to mislead the police, the TDP alleged.
