Enthusiastic: People participating in the Jagannath Rath Yatra Mahotsav in Belgaum on Saturday. Belgaum: The Jagannath Rath Yatra Mahotsav was held amid religious gaiety in Belgaum on Saturday. Devotees belonging to different sections of society participated in the mahotsav which was organised by the Belgaum branch of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The procession took off from Dharamveer Sambhaji Chowk after the ceremonial prayers and “aarti”. The procession included several dioramas depicting important events from Mahabharata and the life of Lord Jagannath. Artists from Pune had drawn rangoli on the streets along the route of the procession. Senior teachers of ISKCON, including Bhakti Purushottam Swamiji, students and devotees participated in the procession singing bhajans and dancing to the tunes of manjira and dholaks. The procession culminated in the evening at the ISKCON temple in Tilakwadi. The Belgaum branch of ISKCON has been organising the mahotsav for the last six years.
