Infrastructure sought for Bellary

Staff Correspondent

The protesters

said roads passing through the city were in awful condition

BELLARY: Residents of various localities, under the aegis of the Bellary Nagarika Horata Samiti, on Saturday took out a procession demanding the construction of a bypass for the city. In a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Somashekar Goud and D. Nagalakshmi, conveners of the samiti, said the district and the city lacked infrastructure commensurate with the pace of industrialisation. As a result, all roads, including National Highway 63 passing through the city, were in awful condition. The poor condition of roads added to the pollution caused by the large number of heavy vehicles passing through Bellary city. This was causing ill-health among the people, they said and expressed concern over the lack of interest shown by the Government in this regard. The samiti also organised a signature campaign urging the Government to be more proactive.
