BANGALORE: Defending the recruitment process in Indian Railways, Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu on Saturday said that the controversy in appointments made in South Western Railway was not restricted to Karnataka alone, as every State was coming out with similar requests. Speaking during the launch of Garib Rath here, the Minister said that the issue was being examined at the Government level, and that he did not have much details. “Every State is coming out with requests on reserving posts to the locals,” he added. The Minister was replying to a request made by MP Ananth Kumar on the injustice meted out to Kannadigas in the recruitment of Group D employees in South Western Railway. Before arriving at a decision, he said: “Constitutional provisions and Supreme Court directives have to be considered. The constitution guarantees equal opportunities to all and Supreme Court has also directed for employment opportunities for all.” Later, speaking to presspersons he said: “We have a foolproof recruitment process in Indian Railways where examinations are held in a transparent manner. Besides, a committee is in place to look into the recruitment issues. Even Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav or I cannot tamper with the recruitment process.”
