Big wins for Bengal, Punjab

Madurai: Bengal drubbed Daman 9-0 in the three-team Cluster ‘D’ in the 17th youth (under-21) National football championship for the Dutta Roy Trophy at Madurai on Saturday.

Punjab also scored a 9-0 win over Puducherry in Cluster ‘C’. Maharashtra scored an emphatic 4-0 win over Bihar in Cluster ‘F’ while Andaman and Nicobar beat Jharkhand 2-0 in a Cluster ‘G’ match.

In the inaugural match on Friday, four goals by Savio Fernandes helped defending champion Goa score a 7-0 victory over Chandigarh.

The results: Cluster ‘C’: Punjab 9 (Amamgleep Singh 3, Lalmmuzira 2, Baljit Singh 1, Gurumandir Singh 1, Lalchhuammwia 1, Dalvir Singh 1) bt Puducherry 0.

Cluster ‘D’: Bengal 9 (S.K. Jewel Raja 3, Somnath Chakrabnthy 2, Sanjili Battacharje 1, Sukumar Roy 2, Swapan Mandi 1) bt Daman 0.

Cluster ‘F’: Maharastra 4 (Craig D’Souza 1, Karan Amin 1, Syed Nasir 1, Justin Stephen 1) bt Bihar 0; Manipur 2 (Joseph Thongchinlal Khonsai 1, Wangkher Mayum Daniel 1) drew with Delhi 2 (Manish Negi 2).

Cluster ‘G’: Assam 3 (Sibranarzary 1, Jopeswarbro 2) bt Jammu and Kashmir 0; Andaman and Nicobar 2 (Francis Xavier 2) bt Jharkhand 0.

Friday’s results: Cluster ‘B’: Goa 7 (Savio Fernandes 4, Agnelo Coloco 1, Selwyn Fernandes 1, Gabriel 1) bt Chandigarh 0.

Cluster ‘E’: Kerala 2 (Mohamed Sherif 1, Umer Farook 1) bt Uttar Pradesh 0.

Cluster ‘H’: Madhya Pradesh 4 (Mohamed Javeed 1, Ankit Rawat 1, Vishal Sen 1, Faiz Easan 1) bt Uttarkhand 1 (Vikash Negi 1); Mizoram 3 (Zazundanga 2, Lailohlva 1) bt Orissa 1 (Prakash Kumar 1).
