Ganapathy wins as Digvijay falters

GURGAON: When it really mattered, Digvijay Singh faltered and Rahul Ganapathy held his nerves to win the Rs. 30-lakh Solaris Chemtech Open golf tournament at the Golden Greens Golf and Country Club here on Friday.

This was Ganapathy’s second win on the PGTI Tour this season, having claimed the honours in the Global Green Bangalore Open in Bangalore in December.

A round of one-over 73 gave Ganapathy a winning tally of eight-under 280, one better than Digvijay, who bogeyed twice over the last three holes for a second successive round of 70.

S.S.P. Chowarasia, leader on the first two days, took the third spot with an aggregate of 282 after a disappointing 74.

Digvijay, playing in the penultimate group, had taken a one-stroke lead over Ganapathy after 15 holes, but bogeyed the 16th and 18th holes. Amid mounting tension, Ganapathy saved par on the final hole and won by a stroke.

The scores: Rahul Ganapathy (73, 67, 67, 73) 280; Digvijay Singh (69, 72, 70, 70) 281; S.S.P. Chowrasia (67, 69, 72, 74) 282; Randhir Singh Ghotra (72, 67, 75, 69) 283; Ashok Kumar (73, 72, 68, 71), Gaganjeet Bhullar (68, 71, 72, 73) 284; Drew Edwin Dubberlin (Sin) (71, 75, 70, 69) 285; Shamim Khan (69, 75, 71, 71), Anura Rohana (Sri) (69, 71, 71, 75), Craig Mclean (Sin) (72, 72, 66, 76) 286; Himmat Singh Rai (69, 72, 78, 69); Amandeep Johl (72, 70, 73, 73), Arjun Singh (72, 70, 72, 74), Vijay Kumar (70, 68, 73, 77) 288; Naman Dawar (69, 75, 75, 70), Rahil Gangjee (74, 69, 74, 72), Mukesh Kumar (72, 72, 73, 72), Karanjit Singh Sandhu (70, 70, 74, 75) 289; Vivek Bhandari (73, 71, 74, 72) and Unho Park (Aus) (71, 74, 73, 72) 290.
