SRINAGAR: Two Hizb ul-Mujahideen militants holed up in a house at Wachi in Pulwama district surrendered on Saturday after a brief exchange of fire with the police. The militants realised that they were surrounded by the police on all sides, Senior SP Nitish Kumar said. The police cordoned off the village in the morning but when they reached the target area, the militants opened fire indiscriminately, triggering an encounter. After a brief exchange of fire, the militants were given an opportunity to surrender. At this, they readily laid down their arms, Mr. Kumar said. - PTI
