Puducherry
PUDUCHERRY: The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), an alliance partner of the ruling Congress in Puducherry, on Saturday demanded the setting up of a coordination panel comprising the allies and evolving a common minimum programme for implementation in the Union Territory. In a statement here, PMK leader in Parliament M. Ramadass said forming a committee comprising representatives of the Congress, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the PMK and the Communist Party of India would go a long way in removing the “unpleasant situation” that had arisen in the Union Territory administration. The panel should meet once in two months and hold free and frank discussions on the problems before the government and people and the state of finance in the Union Territory. “The Congress leadership should come forward to accept the PMK’s suggestion and implement it immediately to ensure that the popularly elected government functioned efficiently, honestly and transparently with a view to promoting the welfare of the people,” he said. Mr. Ramadass said that he had already taken up the issue with the Congress high command in the first week of December 2007. Though it was assured that the coordination panel would be convened by the end of December 2007, it had not been done so far.
