Tanflora crosses 3 million mark for Valentine’s Day

Hosur: The Tanflora Floriculture Infrastructure Park at Amudhagondapalli near here has crossed the 3 million mark in export of cut Roses for this Valentines Day. The U.S., Germany, U.K, The Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Middle East and Far East countries were the major importers.

Exclusive variety

The Park had also patented an exclusive dark variety of Red rose called as Tajmahal.

5 hectares

“We are planning to have 5 hectares for Tajmahal variety alone.

As many as 75 lakhs Tajmahal stems would be exported from 2009 onwards.

Good price

Once we produce sufficient numbers we can command a good price in the International market” Chairman and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) S. Ramasundaram has said.

Joint venture

A joint venture between the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and private promoters Tanflora is the country’s first Agri Export Zone (AEZ) for cut Roses and fourth largest floriculture park in the world. Out of a total of 54 hectares planting of roses has been completed in about 36 hectares.

Planting of Roses would be completed in all the 54 hectares by next year.

Mr. Ramasundaram said that Tanflora had entered into marketing arrangements with major importers in Japan, Europe, Australia, Middle and Far East countries to market 70 million Roses.

Exotic varieties

The park would have its own plant propagation facilities for exotic varieties of cut Roses with an annual production capacity of one million rose plants for exports and domestic markets.

Nursery business

Tanflora would also be entering into nursery business shortly.

Tanflora plans to have ready-made bouquet making facilities with a capacity of 30,000 bouquets a day.

These would be directly supplied to major supermarkets in Japan, Russia and Europe.

Production facilities in the park would be expanded by 30 hectares in Phase – II of the project.

The Park will build houses for more than 800 farmers.

School

The District Collector, Santhosh Babu has promised a school for this complex.

Other amenities would be provided shortly Mr. Ramasundaram added.

According to Mr. Najeeb Ahmed Managing Director Tanflora the park has entered into long-term agreements with world-leading breeders viz., Kordes (Germany), Interplant (Holland), Lex+ (Holland), Olij Rozen (Holland), Franko Roses (New Zealand) and Jan Spek (U.S.) Tanflora plans to have own unpacking and marketing facilities in major importing countries

Mr. Ahmed added. Regional Head Agriculture Processed Foods Development Authority Ravindra, Collector Santhosh Babu, Sub-Collector, Nagarajan were present.
