“Do not use electricity during evening hours”

Staff Reporter

Collector tells farmers

MADURAI: The District Collector, S.S. Jawahar, has urged farmers not to use electricity during evening hours in order to provide uninterrupted power during the public examinations and summer season for domestic consumers.

In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that at present farmers were divided into two groups for power supply.

While one group got three-phase power between 6 a.m. and 12 noon, another got it between 12 noon and 6 p.m. Both groups were supplied power from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

During peak hours, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., Mr. Jawahar said, electricity should not be used for agricultural purposes.

However, it had come to light that power was being used for agriculture during peak hours resulting in supply disruptions for domestic connections.

Mr. Jawahar urged farmers to refrain from using power during the evening hours.
