Goalless draw

VISAKHAPATNAM: Host Visakhapatnam drew goalless with Mumbai in the inaugural league match of the 32nd all-India Major Ports football championship at the Port Stadium here on Saturday.

Visakhapatnam forwards Ashok and Karim played well as the team dominated the pool A match.

But the host was unlucky as it missed as many as four open chances.

Ashok could not convert three and Karim one from inside the box.

In pool B Tuticorin beat Chennai 1-0. Forward Naveen scored the goal converting a long pass from wing back Shanmugam in the 68th minute. Cochin defeated Paradip by a solitary goal in another match. Saraval Thomas scored the all-important goal in the 68th minute.

Last year’s winner Kolkota did not turn up.
