Thiruvananthapuram: Activists of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) vandalised the house of a builder at Kowdiar on Saturday. The activists were protesting against the government’s alleged inaction against the land mafia. They poured used engine oil on the walls of the house of A.R. Babu, flat builder and owner of Heera construction company. The police prevented them from scaling the wall of the house. One of the protestors hurled a bucket containing engine oil into the house compound. M. Radhakrishnan Nair, Circle Inspector, Peroorkada, said 18 persons were arrested in connection with the incident. They were charged with unlawful assembly, causing mischief, attempted trespass, and obstructing policemen, pedestrians and motorists. The police let the activists out on bail in the evening. NCP vehicles damagedTwo unidentified persons on a motorbike damaged vehicles owned by NCP leaders Mariapuram Sreekumar and Thampanoor Satheesh at Palayam on Saturday evening. The police said the vehicles were parked in front of a hotel where the leaders were having their tea. The Cantonment police have registered a case on the basis of the complaint given by the NCP men. The NCP also took out a torchlight march in the evening in protest against the alleged land mafia-inspired ‘attack’ on their leaders.
