Devagiri CMI Public School celebrated its annual day on the school premises in Kozhikode on January 27. C. Radhakrishnan, novelist, was the chief guest. Fr. Mathew Kulapuram, Vicar Provincial, CMI Kozhikode Provincial, presided over the meeting. Fr. Paul Chakkanikkunnel, school manager, distributed prizes to the winners. Fr. John Mannarathara, Principal, introduced the chief guest on the occasion. Mr. Radhakrishnan said society grew only because the teacher updated the knowledge of the children. However, teachers today were not given due respect as they were in the past. There were many reasons for this. A teacher was not a person who should work according to the courses he or she had studied and the capitation fees paid by him/her. The greatest entrance examination should be conducted for the post of teachers. Then only can progress be achieved, he said. Bobby C. Mathew, president of the Parent-Teacher Association; Anuradha Madhusoodanan, Vice-Principal; Amal T. Jose, school leader; and Milli D’Souza, Kindergarten Headmistress, spoke. Various cultural programmes, including choir, skit, group song, Mohiniyattom, group dance, western dance, tribal dance and other dances, were staged.
