BANGALORE: Keeping an eye on the coming elections to the State Legislative Assembly, the Karnataka Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee has decided to launch a door-to-door campaign to create awareness among the people on pro-poor programmes launched by the United Progressive Alliance Government. The decision was taken at a meeting of the working committee of the Mahila Congress held on Sunday and attended by its President Rani Satish and Vice-President Kalpana Devi and in-charge of Mahila Congress affairs in the State. Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, Dr. Devi said awareness campaigns would be launched this month at the panchayat, block, taluk and at the district-level to inform the people about implementation of the promises made by the Congress during the last general elections. It has also decided to urge the State Government to release more funds to self-help groups run by women. On providing 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies, Dr. Devi said the United Progressive Alliance Government would introduce the Bill on the issue in the coming budget session. Priority for Kannadigas in the Railways recruitment and classical tag to Kannada language were other issues discussed in the meeting.
