“Migration from Tiruvannamalai has come down”

TIRUVANNAMALAI: A total of 3,731 works to the tune of Rs.101.16 crore are under different stages of progress under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in 860 village panchayats in Tiruvannamalai district, according to Collector Satyabrata Sahoo.
He was presiding over the valedictory of the implementation of the scheme for the second year held in Sathanur in Thandrambattu panchayat union on Saturday. Mr. Sahoo said works to the tune of Rs. 36 crore were completed during 2006-2007, while works to the tune of about Rs.65 crore were in progress. The migration of rural people from Tiruvannamalai to other States in search of employment has come down after the scheme, he said.
