dated February 4, 1958: Kashmir issue

Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed, Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, addressing a large public meeting in New Delhi on February 2, under the auspices of the All-Parties Kashmir Committee, declared that Kashmir would remain an integral part of India till eternity and any attempt from any quarter to disturb this relationship would be put down with an “iron hand.” He categorically ruled out any question of plebiscite in the State to ascertain the wishes of the people on its accession.
