Letters to the Editor
This refers to the report “Principal canes herself to mend ways of wards” (Feb. 1). We have heard of satyagraha and hunger strike but the action of Meenakshikutty Amma, principal of a local school in Idukki, to extract confession from a student who stole the prize money won by his school is something exceptional. The fact that her act of punishing herself bore fruit is indeed a matter of pride for her. The wide coverage of the new, model handling of students is appropriate. K.S. Thampi, Chennai The report was very touching. It proved that we still have good teachers who, through their dedicated and principled way of life, not only enlighten their students with study matter but also cultivate character and quality in their behaviour. C.G. Devy, Mannuthy
