Madurai: Host Tamil Nadu made a promising start with an 8-0 win over Himachal Pradesh in the three-team Cluster ‘A,’ while four goals including a hat-trick by Dada Nabeel helped Karnataka register an 8-1 victory over Chandigarh in the three-team Cluster ‘B’ in the 17th youth (under-21) National football championship for the Dutta Roy Trophy here on Sunday. Since Rajasthan was not allowed to play in the tournament as it brought two teams, the cluster was reduced to only two teams. Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh have to meet twice to decide the qualifier. In the first match on Sunday, Tamil Nadu outplayed Himachal Pradesh. Sabeeth scored three goals, while Manikandan scored a brace. The other three goals were scored by Fredy, Ilamurugan and Pradeep. Meanwhile, Chandigarth, which lost to Goa in its first match, made its exit and the match between Karnataka and Goa will decide the qualifier for the quarterfinal league from this cluster. The results: C luster ‘A’: Tamil Nadu 8 (Sabeeth 3, Manikandan 2, Fredy, Ilamurugan, Pradeep) bt Himachal Pradesh 0; Cluster ‘B’: Karnataka 8 (Dada Nebeel 4 including a hat-trick, Pradeep Kumar 2, Karthikeyan, Vignesh) bt Chandigarh 1 (Kamal); Cluster ‘E’: U.P. 4 (Zairul 3, including a hat-trick, Mohamed Kalid Raza) bt Chhattisgarh 0; Cluster ‘H’: Mizoram 1 (Malsawm Sela) bt MP 0; Orissa 2 (Prasanta Kumar Behera 2) bt Uttarakhand 1 (Mauish Khatri).
