HUBLI: Former Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basvaraj Horatti has urged the Chief Secretary to allocate funds towards the grant-in-aid of educational institutions in the coming budget. In a memorandum, submitted to the Chief Secretary during a recent discussion on the budget, and released to the press here, Mr. Horatti said that while the State Government had announced grant-in-aid to private educational institutions started during 1992-93 in the budget for 2007-08, it had also set aside Rs. 50 crore for providing grant to the educational institutions established afterwards, based on the progress of the students. The move meant that the Government had in principle agreed that there were no “unaided educational institutions” in the State and the Government was responsible for payment of grant to educational institutions started till 2007-08, the former Minister said. Mr. Horatti has also urged the Chief Secretary to take steps to extend facilities to students studying in aided and un-aided institutions similar to those extended to government school students, and accordingly earmark funds.
