SIRSI: Teachers should play a crucial role in nation building, former Minister Sunil Shastri has said. He was speaking at the decennial celebrations of Sneha Sagar Residential School at Idagundi in Yellapur taluk near here on Friday. Development would be achieve its purpose only if it was taken to rural areas, he said and added that the scenario in the country would change if women in rural areas became independent. ‘Focus on rural areas’He called upon governments, banks, educational institutions and non-government organisations (NGOs) to focus more on development of rural areas. He said that these institutions should create awareness on security to life through insurance. “Primarily, education and social security are essential for the common man. But nobody, including the people’s representatives have contemplated this,” he said. Mr. Shastri said that one should be able to shoulder any kind of responsibility. Vishweshwar Bhat, Executive Editor of Vijay Karnataka, said that the purpose of education, duties and values of life should be made known to youth by their teachers. Meera Shastri, wife of Mr. Sunil Shastri; Krishna Hegde of Nammur Hotel, Bangalore; theatre artiste Yashawant Sardeshapande; school president Veena S. Bhat; and school adviser Suresh L. Bhat were present.
