MAKING A POINT: Geevarghese Mar Osthathios, Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, inaugurating the 65th Orthodox Syrian Christian convention on the sand-bed of the Manimala at Kallooppara, near Mallappally, on Sunday. PATHANAMTHITTA: The 65th Orthodox Syrian Christian convention, organised by the Niranom diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church, began at the Koyithottu Manalpuram (sand-bed of the Manimala river) at Kallooppara, near Mallappally, on Sunday afternoon. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios, Metropolitan of the Church, inaugurated the week-long convention. Sunday School children earlier took out a colourful rally to the convention venue. Metropolitan of the Niranom diocese Youhanon Mar Chrysostomos presided over the inaugural function. Bishop Sam Mathew of the Church of South India delivered the keynote address. Fr. Cherian P. Varghese, president of the organising committee; Fr. Thomas Parakkadavil, secretary; and Mathew Varghese, director of the Sunday School Association attached to Niranom diocese; spoke. The week-long religious retreat will come to a close on February 10. Catholicos-designate Paulose Mar Milithios will lead the holy euchrist at the convention venue on February 10.
