Girl child abuse

It is highly deplorable and heart-rending to hear that centres of learning have become centres of heinous acts like rape and sexual abuse. Parents are afraid of sending their children, especial girls, to hostels for education in these circumstances. Recently a pharmacy student was raped and murdered in her hostel in Krishna district.

The husband of a hostel warden, a teacher by profession, disrobing girls in the hostel under one pretext or the other came to light recently.

It is high time the Government took steps to ensure that such elements are kept out of educational institutions. People, who are involved in such acts, should be subject to ‘social boycott’. It is very disheartening to hear that teachers are also involved in such acts. Steps should be taken to sensitise teachers.

Constructive criticism

TDP leaders made several promises to people at the recent ‘B.C. Garjana’, but totally ignored them in their nine-year rule. Farmers committed suicide because agriculture sector was ignored during their rule. Priorities have changed all of a sudden and agriculture has become very important. The party could become close to the BCs by helping the poor and pinpoint the mistakes committed by the Government in a constructive way.

Kudos to BSNL

The bringing together the officials of the BSNL, who were scattered all over town into two buildings, has been a boon to customers. Officers have been making untiring efforts to convince customers to stay in the BSNL fold.

Their efforts have paid off with new customers coming into the corporation fold. West Godavari has bagged the Rajbhasha Shield for the third consecutive year. And much of the credit for this goes to BSNL officer L. Anantaram. Such hard working and effective officers should be given more awards to encourage them.

Evangelism and politics

Evangelism and politics are two different and parallel issues that do not have a point of convergence. Evangelist K.A.Paul claims that he was working for world peace, but has spoken for the formation of a separate Telangana. How can an angel of peace (shanti dhoota) speak for the disintegration of a state?

Tolerance, universal love, compassion and forgiveness are the main concepts of evangelism. If Mr. Paul wants to be an angel of peace he should desist from proclamations.
