AIADMK releases candidates’ list

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Sunday released a list of party candidates for vacancies in rural and urban local bodies, elections to which will be held on February 20.

Volunteers of the party led by propaganda secretary M.Thambidurai will stage a demonstration in front of the Kothari Sugar Mills in Tiruchi district on February 5 protesting the release of “toxic gases and carbon particles’ from the factory.

In a statement here on Sunday, party general secretary Jayalalithaa said about 50,000 people in and around the factory were being affected and 5000 acres of fertile land in the area had become unfit for cultivation.

No steps taken

Despite representation by the people to local authorities no step had been taken by the Government. Protesting the Government’s indifference party workers would stage the demonstration, the statement said.
