Winners all: Governor Rameshwar Thakur with the National Cadet Corps Karnataka in Bangalore on Sunday. BANGALORE: The joy of these cadets knew no bounds, for they were able to uphold the traditions of the Karnataka and Goa National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate by a making a mark in the annual Republic Day camp held in New Delhi. Though the directorate was ranked fourth in overall performance, the cadets stood first in many group and individual events. Great effortOn Sunday, the effort of these 101 cadets was lauded by Governor Rameshwar Thakur, who hosted a tea party at Raj Bhavan for them on their return to Bangalore after completing a month-long camp in Delhi. The cadets were accompanied by Deputy Director General of NCC Karnataka and Goa Directorate Air Commodore P. Rajesh Rao and other NCC officers. During a brief interaction with the cadets, the Governor asked them to adhere to the moral values, civic sense, intellect and reasoning in choosing the right path in life. He expressed his confidence in the cadets in their ability to excel in whatever field they choose and make the country proud. Winning momentsAmong the events the cadets excelled in were the ship modelling and aero modelling competitions. The model of the ship prepared by Cadet Bhagyashree and Cadet S. Skanda received appreciation for showing the way “water” can be used as fuel to run the ship. Aero-modellingCadet Ashwini, who had prepared an aero model, was also appreciated for her skills in flying her model. “We were able to give a good performance in the national integration group song where we depicted the culture of Karnataka and Goa,” said Cadet Lakshmi Narayan Sharma, who was awarded the gold medal for the best instrumentalist. Credit to NCC officersAir Commodore Rao credited the cadet’s performance to the dedicated efforts of the NCC officers. “They trained the cadets in conditions that were almost similar to that in New Delhi. These cadets have undergone rigorous physical training apart from being psychologically prepared for this momentous occasion,” he said. TraditionThe directorate has stood among the first three positions for the last 25 years, he added. He also commended the continued support of Governments of Karnataka and Goa to NCC activities.
