Kumaraswamy continues to get requests for help

Former Chief Minister does his bit for child

Bangalore: The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy received many visitors seeking help during his days in office. Even three months after demitting office, the requests continue.

Mr. Kumaraswamy, who had come to the Press Club of Bangalore to attend a meet-the-press programme, was approached by a poor woman from Ananthapura village in Sagar taluk of Shimoga district. The Janata Dal (S) leader, who was about to leave the press club, stopped for a while to listen to her and provided an on-the-spot solution to her problem.

Manjula, wife of Pratap Singh, showed her ten-month-old child, who feet had to be amputated, seeking help to treat its heart problem. The feet had to be amputated as it was said to be born with gangrene. Doctors at a hospital in Shimoga reportedly told her to get the baby discharged, saying no further treatment was possible.

The poor family then shifted the baby to a private hospital in Bangalore, where both the feet were amputated, and in the process it developed heart problem.

Mr. Kumaraswamy telephoned the Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, C.N. Manjunath, who agreed to treat the child. She was asked to meet the institute director on Tuesday, as he was out of town.
