Uma to stage dharna against lack of drought relief

Staff Correspondent

Bharatiya Janshakti Party chief Uma Bharti

BHOPAL: The Bharatiya Janshakti President Uma Bharti will lead a protest at Basai in Datia district on Monday to raise voice against lack of drought relief and the “failure” of the State and the Union Government to address the farmers’ crisis in Madhya Pradesh.

The Bharatiya Janshakti State unit President, Ashok Tripathi announced his party’s agitation plan at a press conference here on Sunday. He said that the State Government has declared 151 tehsils in 37 districts as drought affected. Accusing the State Government of failure to ensure the release of Central funds for drought relief, he told journalists that the State Government has failed to ensure the release of funds that were sanctioned by the Centre for drought relief when Ms. Bharti was the State Chief Minister. As a consequence, there was total lack of drought relief initiative and the farmers were being compelled to migrate, he added.

Mr. Tripathi said that he would lead the party agitation near Bina and the other party office bearers and leaders have been asked to spearhead the agitation in other parts of the State. He went on to announce that the Bharatiya Janshakti would form a human chain near the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on this issue if the State and the Union Government fail to address the problem. The Bundelkhand, Malwa, Baghelkhand and Chambal regions in Madhya Pradesh were reeling under the harsh impact of drought, said Mr. Tripathi.
