JAIPUR: Seven districts of Rajasthan have been included in the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) programme for poverty alleviation, health care, education, women and child development and training to elected representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions. The programme will continue till 2012. Chief Secretary D.C. Samant said here that the UNDAF had granted 10 million U.S. dollars to the State for implementing the programme during 2008. The districts incorporated in the ambitious programme are Udaipur, Chittaurgarh, Banswara, Rajsamand, Dungarpur, Tonk and Jhalawar. Besides Rajasthan, the programme will also be implemented in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh during the next four years. Mr. Samant, addressing a meeting with the UNDAF office-bearers here over the week-end, said the U.N. agency’s priorities would be reflected in its advocacy, capacity development, policy advice and programming for achieving the targets. Secretaries of various departments made presentations on their schemes and achievements. UNDAF India Deputy Director Peter Balt said the resources available at the district level would be utilised for implementing the programme with the emphasis on disaster management and improving the standard of life of citizens.
