BANGALORE: Sharmila Nicollet celebrated her seventh straight success in the ladies all-India Open amateur golf tournament with a decisive 9 & 7 victory over Mehar Atwal. Competing in the gold division (0-12 handicap), Sharmila played steady golf to aim for pars on most of the 36-hole matchplay tournament. She did however log two birdies on the 19th and 27th holes and wrapped up her win on the 29th hole. Mehar Atwal had only four winning holes, two in each of the 18 holes scheduled in the match. Incidentally, Sharmila lost the ninth, 13th, 25th and 26th scoring bogies on these holes. “I was very confident after the victory in the semifinals on Saturday. My confidence levels grew with each hole and I am happy that I played steady golf to win my seventh tournament,” Sharmila said after the match. For Mehar, it was a disappointing final and she just could not get the better of Sharmila. In the silver division, Kasavi Malik, the 14-year-old from Kolkata playing in her first tournament in the 13-24 handicap section, made it a memorable debut. Kasavi won 4 & 3. The match was all over after the 15th hole. The results: Gold division (0-12 handicap): Sharmila Nicollet bt Mehar Atwal 9 & 7; Third place: Karishma Thiagraj w/o Laverry Kumar. Silver division (13-24 handicap): Kasavi Malik bt Mita Govande 4 & 3. Bronze division (25-36): Aditi Ashok bt Asha Doshi 2 & 1. — Special Correspondent
