Noushad fires in three goals for SBT

THIRUVALLA: State star K.M. Noushad fired in three goals while Asif Saheer and R. Kannan scored two each as State Bank of Travancore, which will be playing the Second Division National League later this year, routed Kottayam’s Cosmos 8-0 and entered the semifinals of the 32nd Kerala State inter-club football championship at the Public Stadium here on Sunday evening.

In another match, Central Excise, Kochi, blanked Kollam SAI 6-0 and entered the quarterfinals. K.M. Shafeeque netted three goals for the winner.

The results: pre-quarterfinals: Central Excise, Kochi 6 (K.M. Shafeeque 6th, 34th, 60th; Vineeth Antony 38th; Bijesh Ben 66th; Rixon Paul 81st) bt SAI, Kollam 0.

Quarterfinals: SBT, Thiruvananthapuram 8 (K.M. Abdul Noushad 14th, 23rd, 58th; Asif Saheer 29th, 34th; R. Kannan 49th, 73rd; Martin John 86th) bt Cosmos, Kottayam 0.

Easy for Budoline

Local side Budoline Cricket Academy defeated MPG Cricket Academy, Kochi, by 91 runs in the 21st E.P. Pavoo memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament at the St Thomas College Ground, Thrissur, on Sunday.

The scores:

Budoline CA, Tsr 230 for seven in 30 overs (Ajish 49, Bineesh 43, Hamza Kunju four for 35) bt MPG CA, Kochi 139 in 23.3 overs (Vishnu four for 20).

Fancy Fabrics Challengers, Tsr 191 in 29 overs (Shahid four for 34) bt Youngsters, Vaniyamkulam 178 in 29.2 overs (K. Anand 57).

Thebasco’s silver jubilee

The Thebasco Trophy South India basketball tournament, which celebrates its silver jubilee this year, begins at the Sacred Heart School floodlit ground, Thevara, on Monday evening.

Sathyabhama University, Armed Police (both Chennai), AOC (Secunderabad) and Kerala teams Central Excise, KSEB and BSNL will figure in the men’s event. In the women’s section, a league affair, KSEB and SAI teams from Thrissur and Thalassery will be seen in action.

Rajagiri Engineering College Director, Fr Jose Alex, will inaugurate the tournament.

Cricket tournament

The first Anand Dev memorial inter-school Twenty20 cricket tournament, organised by the Choice School, begins at the Palace Oval, Tripunithura, on Monday.

Vaduthala Chinmaya, Tripunithura Chinmaya, Vidyodaya (Thevakkal), Girinagar Bhavan’s, NSS (Tripunithura) and the Choice School, will figure in the event.
