Bhairon Singh wins Kolkata Marathon

KOLKATA: Bhairon Singh Lone of Madhya Pradesh won the fourth Airtel Kolkata Marathon (42.195km) in a time of two hours 20 minutes and 53 seconds here on Sunday.

Lone, an employee of Central Railway, had finished second last year.

He ensured the top prize fund of Rs. 3 lakh this year with the best time recorded ever in the Kolkata Marathon. Angad Kumar of Uttaranchal (2:21:39s) was second, followed by Bipul Saharia of Assam (2:24:0s).

Pampa Chanda of Bengal retained the title she won last year with a time of 44:46.1s to take home Rs. 1 lakh.

V.R. Lakshmi of Mumbai was second (44:45.5s), while Reena Das of Bengal was third (46:44.5s). — Special Correspondent
