THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Palakkad edged out Thiruvananthapuram 6-5 via the tie-breaker to lift the title in the inaugural State under-18 boys’ hockey tournament for the V.P. Sadanandan Rolling Trophy at the G.V. Raja Sports School here on Sunday. Palakkad came back from behind twice to force a 2-2 draw and pushed the match into the tie-breaker. In regular time, Sharath (10th) and Schiller (49th) scored for the host, while Jithesh (32nd) and Prajeesh (59th) sounded the boards for Palakkad. In the tie-breaker, Ismail, Jithesh, Jijith and Prajeesh scored for Palakkad, while Adarash, Antony and Shakath were successful for Thiruvananthapuram. Kannur defeated Alappuzha 3-1 to finish third. Earlier in the semfinals, Thiruvananthapuram blanked Kannur 6-0, while Palakkad scored a solitary goal win over Alappuzha.
