Understand rules before forming opinions: Kharge

Staff Correspondent

BJP, JD(S) leaders criticised for targeting Governor

DAVANGERE: President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Mallikarjun Kharge has taken strong exception to the statements of leaders from the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Bharatiya Janata Party alleging that the Governor has been working at the behest of Congress leaders.

Addressing party workers at the “Janandolana programme” here on Sunday, Mr. Kharge told the BJP and Janata Dal (S) leaders to understand the rules and regulations governing the administration before criticising any office or person. He said had they possessed sound understanding of the rules of procedure, they would have continued in office for some more time.

“The Congress had kept quiet even when the two parties had been quarrelling over so many issues, including the power-sharing pact, and it did not try to topple the Government. It also did not influence its leaders in Delhi to dismiss the Government and bring in President’s Rule,” he said. The BJP and the Janata Dal (S), which had locked horns over many issues including allocation of portfolios, fell apart resulting in the fall of the coalition Government, he said, and asked that when such was the case, why were the leaders trying to criticise the office of the Governor. He accused them of ideological bankruptcy. Mr. Kharge also criticised the remarks of the BJP leaders that the Congress had misruled the State in the last 50 years and said that the sanctioning of irrigation projects involving the Almatti, Tungabhadra, Narayanapura, Harangi and Hemvathy was proof enough of its leadership.
