Narasimhaiah wanted a spacious Rangamandira in Gowribidanur Construction of a Rangamandira at Gowribidanur in Chickballapur district was a cherished dream of well-known educationist H. Narasimhaiah. But the dream of HN, as he was well known, of having such a spacious and well-furnished auditorium in his native place has still remained unfulfilled. HN wanted the Rangamandira to come up on one of the sites belonging to the National Educational Society, of which he was the chairman. He planned to construct it at a cost of Rs. 1 crore by collecting funds from the public. “The taluk centre Gowribidanur does not have a big and well-furnished auditorium. There is no proper venue to hold big functions or programmes in the town,” said Manjunath K.N., a youth leader. Though the region has a rich folk tradition, cultural programmes are not being organised on a big scale to exhibit their talent owing to the absence of a good auditorium. It is because of this that HN dreamt of constructing the Rangamandira. The site, sanctioned originally by the town municipality, where the proposed Rangamandira was to come up, is now lying vacant and is being used as a playground by students. Though the then MLA N.H. Shivashankar Reddy referred the issue of Rangamandira construction at HN’s condolence meeting three years ago, the work on it is yet to start. “The construction of Rangamandira would be a glowing tribute to HN, who accorded prominence to creating healthy cultural atmosphere to create a healthy society,” Sumithra, a teacher at the National High School, said. Besides construction, it should be christened as HN Rangamandira, people of the region feel. Now the onus lies on the elected representatives of local body and the associates of HN to realise his dream. Vishwa Kundapura in Kolar
