Water supply paralysed in Pudukottai town
Staff Reporter
PUDUKOTTAI: A burst in the pipeline of Combined Drinking Water Supply Scheme has paralysed the supply to a majority of town residents for the past eight days.
The pipeline at Ellapatti village, near here, suffered the burst, bringing the distribution of drinking water to a grinding halt in 22 wards. However, officials made alternative arrangements by diverting water from Ammayapatti.
Official sources hope that the supply will be restored by Monday as the snag has been set right. However, what worries them is yet another burst the pipeline has developed on Sunday. The only consolation is that the second burst is relatively a minor one which can be restored immediately, sources said. The daily supply is about 80 lakh litres.
In the meanwhile, members of Communist Party of India, led by the Municipal Councillor Pazhaniappan, launched an agitation at the Old Bus stand here on Saturday, protesting against the ‘prolonged delay’ in restoration of the supply.
