Karur farmers get flood relief

KARUR: The State Government has announced a relief of Rs.5,000 per acre of wetland and Rs.2,000 per acre of dry land crops that were damaged in Karur district in the December rains.
In a release issued here on Friday, Collector T.N. Venkatesh pointed out that paddy, sugar cane, sunflower and coconut raised on around 356.39 hectare were damaged to the extant of 50 to 100 per cent.
Based on the demand of the affected farmers, the State Government has granted rain havoc relief as Rs.5,000 per hectare for wetlands and Rs.2,000 per hectare for dry land crops.
In Karur taluk, 8.38 hectares in Somur, Koyampalli, Thottakurichi and Nerur villages were affected and Rs.33,883 was disbursed to 26 farmers.
In Kulithalai taluk
In Kulithalai taluk, rain havoc was pronounced in Kulithalai, K.Pettai, Rajendiram, Vaiganallur, Kadambarkoil, Kumaramangalam, Manathattai, Marudur, Nangavaram, Suriyanur and Neithlaur where 333.04 hectares were damaged and Rs. 7,07,812 has been disbursed as compensation to 800 farmers.
Krishnarayapuram taluk
In Krishnarayapuram taluk, a total of 13.27 hectares at Renganathapuram were damaged and 32 farmers have been given compensation of Rs.53,080.
The compensation would be credited to the respective Primary Agricultural Cooperative Bank, according to Mr. Venkatesh.
