Madurai in “final five” of Cognizant’s expansion plan
Shastry V. Mallady
MADURAI: Global IT solutions major Cognizant has short-listed Madurai as one of the five promising locations in the country where it will establish software development facilities.
“After evaluation, Madurai was included among the five locations. It is on our radar and will be a place for our long-term investment,” Lakshmi Narayanan, Cognizant’s Vice-Chairman, told The Hindu here on Saturday.
Mr. Narayanan, who is also the chairman of National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), said Cognizant was the first company to enter Tier-II cities like Coimbatore and “locations like Madurai will find a place in the company’s future operations.”
He was responding to a question about the IT parks being set up in Madurai by the Government and the Cognizant plans to launch operations there. “I will not be able to comment on the other locations at this stage. About Madurai, I can say that it is in our list,” he said.
He was here to inaugurate competitions organised for school students by the Thiagarajar College of Engineering.
