“Favourable wave” for BJP: Thirunavukkarasar
Staff Reporter
MADURAI: A “favourable wave” and the party’s win in recent Assembly elections would help the Bharatiya Janata Party to come back to power at the Centre, said its leader S. Thirunavukkarasar on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Thirunavukkarasar
said alliances in Tamil Nadu were not formed on the basis of ideology. It was only an electoral understanding and in the past almost all parties (in the State) had aligned with the BJP. The United Progressive Alliance was not able to function due to constant hindrance from the Left parties. Its economic policies did not benefit the majority, including agriculturists. “Besides, the country, which was self-reliant in agriculture production, has weakened to the extent of importing wheat.
If the farmers were not given Rs. 1,000 as procurement price for a quintal of rice, soon the country will be forced to import rice too,” he said. He alleged that the delay in filing an affidavit in the Ramar Sethu issue was due to “confusion among the (United Progressive Alliance) parties and within the Congress.” This had proved that there was prima facie evidence in the BJP’s contention that it was man-made, he said.
The fact that the Government was not able to take a decision on the issue proved that the BJP’s stand to preserve the Ramar Sethu was right.
