MoU signed

CHENNAI: Students enrolled in distance learning courses at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Chennai, and the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers (IETE) New Delhi are set to receive a boost with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions on Sunday.

The MoU was signed by Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, Rajasekharan Pillai and President, IETE, S. Narayana. “It will pave the way for both institutions to share resources between each other and students to receive technical and laboratory facilities,” said V. Appukutty, South Zone Coordinator IETE.

IETE will now provide these facilities for students enrolled for the ‘Bachelors and Masters in Computer Applications,’ courses of IGNOU. Similarly, IGNOU will extend these services for IETE students studying for the ‘Very Low Silicon Integrated Chip (BLSI)’ certification course. “IGNOU is one of the largest providers of distance learning programmes in Tamil Nadu and IETE has students from across Tamil Nadu as well as abroad. Thus, this programme will be mutually beneficial,” Mr. Appukutty said.

IGNOU is also set to provide a one hour slot to IETE in its satellite channel that is broadcast across the country. “This is truly a milestone in distance learning,” said Mr. Appukutty.
