THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The annual festival at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple here will begin on February 14 and the Attukal ‘Pongala’ will be held on February 22. This was announced here recently by the members of the Temple trust led by chairman G. Madhavan Nair. The trust has completed all preparations for the festival. Discussions were held with officials of all departments concerned in the presence of ministers and Mayor C. Jayan Babu. Arrangements have been made for providing adequate medical assistance, water, power, transport and sanitation facilities during the festival. The Trust members appealed to devotees participating in the festival to avoid the use of plastic items and unburnt bricks during the Pongala festival. Services of personnel from the legal metrology department and food inspectors of the city corporation would be requisitioned to ensure that food items sold in and around the temple during the festival are not spurious or adulterated. The Temple trust has not initiated any fund collection drive for the festival. The Trust has also not entrusted any agency or individual to collect funds on its behalf for the festival. Devotees wishing to make contributions can do so directly at the temple, the trust members said at the press conference. The festival will begin at 8.30 a.m. on February 14 with the tying of ‘kaappu’ on the main deity.
