KOCHI: The former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has stressed on the importance of value-based education. Mr. Kalam was inaugurating a function on Sunday organised to mark the conclusion of the year-long 450th anniversary celebrations of the Diocese of Cochin at Edakochi, near here. Varappuzha Aarchbishop Daniel Acharuparampil presided over the function. Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes, who attended the function, said Kerala’s contribution to the growth of India was big. When the world came to the State for trade in spices, the people of Kerala ventured out to excel in various walks of life all over the world, Mr. Fernandes said. He laid the foundation for the orthopaedic section of the Fathima Hospital which was raised as part of the anniversary celebrations.
