“A New Earth” joins exclusive book club

Kunal Diwan

NEW DELHI: Germany-born author Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth” has joined the exclusive “Oprah Book Club” as its 61st selection for January 2008.

Part of the immensely popular “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, the book club has exerted profound influence on the sales figures of selected books. “Being able to share this material with you is a gift and a part of the fulfilment of my life’s purpose. It (the book) was an awakening for me that I want for you too,” said Oprah earlier this week on her eponymous talk show.

Published in 2005, “A New Earth” encourages a collective sense of commitment to changing the way people live. With the knowledge that we live in a time desperate for global change, Tolle’s book answers the question: “What can one person do to enact the change?”

A contemporary spiritual teacher not aligned to any particular religion or tradition, Tolle conveys a simple yet profound message with the timeless and uncomplicated clarity of the ancient spiritual masters.

With clarity and in practical terms, the writer leads readers to a new level of consciousness, awakening them to their lives’ purpose and inviting them to envision a new earth where peace and fellowship are the norm.

Published by the Penguin Group, “A New Earth” will be promoted by a ten-part interactive online event. Readers will be able to participate in a classroom discussion where Tolle and Oprah will conduct chapter-wise discussions on the book. The ten weekly discussions will be webcast every Monday night beginning March 3. To register for the classes, one has to log on to www.oprah.com/anewearth.
